Let's look at each one closely.

Secondary Tension

Secondary physical tension is any body tension that limits the free movement and functioning of the eyes.

This tension is usually in the upper body – the chest, shoulders, neck, head, face and jaw.

Limiting or Negative Thoughts

The next factor that can affect our vision care is limiting and negative thoughts.

“I can't see” is obviously the most commonly used negative statement.

Just think how many times you've said that to yourself – without even really thinking about it – throughout the years – “I can't see”, “I can't see without glasses”, “I can't see that”, “I can't see this”, etc. etc.

Most people who have clear vision care take it for granted.

They don't walk around thinking positive thoughts about their eyes; they just take it for granted.

But if a person has a vision care problem, they start to develop a set of negative thoughts about their eyes.

A whole cluster of negativity about vision care begins then.

Now of course, we all want to be honest with ourselves.

It would be foolish to tell ourselves we can see something when it isn't clear.

But it's very crucial to understand that there is a part of ourselves and our bodies that listens to – and responds to – what we tell ourselves.

Negative thinking tends to reinforce itself.

Try using different phrases instead. “My vision is always improving” or “I'm looking for my vision to change”, or “My vision is becoming clearer and clearer everyday” or “I want to see more”.

These phrases are all just as “true”, in a sense, but they reinforce the possibility of change.

Subconscious Memories and Past Emotional Decisions

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as saying “I want to see” and then having your vision become perfectly clear.

That is an important first step but often, it is the deeper level – what we hold to be true subconsciously that has the most profound affect on how we see.

This is another factor that affects vision.

What is needed on this level is what I call psycho-visual alignment: This combines releasing the inner barriers to seeing, the healing of memories and the alignment of the inner consciousness and the outer desire to see.

To understand how this works, divide your life into two distinct stages – the first stage being the time from when you were born to the time you first noticed a problem with your vision.

The second stage begins when you got your first pair of glasses and continues until now.

This second stage is all after the fact and doesn't have anything to do with whatever may have caused the problem in the first place.

During the first stage, whether it is consciously remembered or not, you had naturally clear vision. (Remember, poor vision is not genetic!)

The Transitional Period Holds the Key

To understand the inner causes of unclear vision care it is necessary to look at what I call the Transitional Period – that period of time – usually a year but it could have been longer – between seeing clearly with natural eyes to first noticing a problem.

This physical change in vision care often follows changes in our own emotional and psychological responses to ourselves – or to the world around us – that become ingrained during this Transitional Period:

Most people can identify a transition in at least one of these three major areas during the Transitional Period.

Personal – changes in self image usually (but not always) accompanied by physical changes during adolescence, reaching puberty or with middle age.

Emotional – changes in significant relationships. (Parents divorce, another child is born or a loved one dies)

Situational – changes in the environment. (Moving to another town and having to make new friends or staying in the same town but switching careers, homes or schools)

Whatever the specific outer changes may have been, what are important are the significant inner changes of feelings, attitudes or perspective and the establishing of limiting emotional patterns.

The emotional and subconscious statement “I don't want to see this part of myself or this problem” is what affects the visual system.

During this Transitional Period a person usually doesn't want to admit to what is being seen, sensed or perhaps even feared.

The message “I don't want to see what is going on” is sent to the subconscious mind.

Often delivered with emotion, this message becomes a command to the mind to develop a more limited pattern of seeing and the Visual Process responds accordingly.

Not wanting to be seen or hiding and protecting oneself from others out of fear or shame can also contribute to the closing and limiting of the visual system.

Wet Macular Degeneration What is It?

There are two types of Macular Degeneration commonly called Wet Macular Degeneration and Dry Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Wet AMD is called wet because it is characterized by new abnormal leaky blood vessels that grow underneath The Retina in the choroids.

You may also hear wet AMD called subretinal net, subretinal neovascularization (SRNV), or choroidal neovascularization (CNV).

Subretinal means underneath the Retina or underneath the PRE, and neovascularization simply means new vessels.

Wet Macular Degeneration may also be referred to as exudative degeneration.

Exudative means seeping or bleeding, referring to these abnormal blood vessels.

We don’t know why these abnormal blood vessels grow. They grow from the choroid through Bruch’s membrane, which is not supposed to allow such a thing, and collect under the RPE like tree roots under a sidewalk.

The walls of these vessels are weak and they tend to leak clear fluid (like the fluid that accumulates when something swells up in the body) and flood.

These liquids seep through the surrounding tissue flooding the cone cells of the macula and either suffocating them or triggering changes that result in their death.

Very late – stage wet macular degeneration is sometimes called disciform degeneration.

Although this refers to the disc-shaped scars that result after bleeding occurs, disciform degeneration is generally used to simply refer to extensive or late stage degeneration.

If these vessels leak enough, they may lift the PRE away from Bruch’s membrane, creating a sort of blister between the two layers that permanently destroys the conveyor belt system in that particular area.

This condition is called a serous pigment epithelial detachment, or PED.

A PED is sometimes referred to in patient information pamphlets as a third type of Macular Degeneration, but it is a possible development in wet macular degeneration.

Your ophthalmologist may be able to detect the presence of these abnormal blood vessels, because they sometime give the affected area of your retina a muted gray-green color.

But to define the precise size and shape of these vessels, and angiogram is necessary.

Having an angiogram involves having dye injected into your arm. This dye travels throughout your bloodstream, making all of your blood, including the blood in those abnormal vessels, glow for the camera.

Wet age related macular degeneration may catch you off-guard if you don’t see your eye doctor for a checkup every two years.

Early signs of AMD are easily detectable to your doctor before you Loss of Vision.

However, since AMD progresses painlessly and silently and our eyes are delighted to compensate for each other, some folks lose vision from Macular Degeneration without realizing that they have.

If you have been told that you have early stage macular degeneration, you should monitor your vision by using an Amsler grid.

This is important because many of the medical treatments we have target Wet AMD and require immediate treatment when blood vessels are forming under the macula.

Since blood vessel growth in the macula is painless, you may not know it has happened unless you monitor your vision.

In any case, see your eye doctor every two years and if you ever notice changes in your vision call him or her immediately.

Wearing contact lenses should be painless.

There should be not even the slightest feeling that there is something in or on the eye.

When you can go through your day forgetting that you're wearing corrective lenses, you know you're wearing the right pair.

What's causing that pain?

But what happens when that invisible feeling starts becoming more noticeable?

What happens when it feels as though there is indescribable pressure on one of your eyes?

Or worse, what happens when you feel sharp, gritty or localized pain in your eye?

More often than not, the culprit is a piece of dirt or other type of debris that somehow has become lodged between the inside surface of your contact lens and the surface of your eye.

When this is the case, relief is easy.

Since it's not a good idea to touch contact lenses unnecessarily, start by adding a few drops of your contact lens solution or lubricant into the eye.

Hopefully the debris will rinse away and the uncomfortable feeling will be gone.

If it's not, then remove the lens and take a closer look. You might find protein deposits accumulating on the lens surface.

If that's the case, it's time to pay more attention to your cleaning routine.

If you're using disposable lenses, it's probably time to replace one or perhaps even both lenses.

And you should feel fortunate that you have such an early warning device.

A build up of protein deposits left untreated can turn into something far more serious than an uncomfortable feeling.

If you've checked the lens surface and done a bit of Contact Lens Maintenance, yet still, wearing contact lenses feels uncomfortable, there's the possibility that the lens has developed a tear.

Remove the lens, place it on your fingertip and hold it up towards a light source.

Look around the edges for what appears to be a tiny fiber.

If one is found, investigate further. It may be just that - a tiny piece of something on the surface.

If it won't come off, it's probably a tear and there's nothing you can do to repair it.

What else could be wrong?

Other reasons Contact Lenses are uncomfortable include wearing the wrong prescription, a problem with Dry Eyes, allergies or other medical problems including eyes that aren't healthy and Eyestrain Caused by Computers.

These types of problems should be discussed with your eye doctor.

Testing and a medical history evaluation can help rule out or pinpoint the cause of the pain and once it's been identified, proper corrective measures can be put into place.

What Is Astigmatism? Despite astigmatism being fairly common among many adults and children, a huge population is completely unaware about it.

Depending on the shape and if the eye views horizontal lines better than vertical lines or vice versa, it will greatly determine what treatment is best for your eyes.

To explain it even further, a normal cornea is smooth and round in nature; because the cornea is smooth this greatly helps light enter into the eye as one direct light source. When your eyes are able to see one direct source, it helps the eye processes objects and images properly.
